Mini-Event: Technological Revolution

After over a month and a half of working his muppet-y hands to the nonexistent bone, Beaker's finally done with the invention he's been cooking up!

These devices possess two forms- one form looks more like a flip-phone, is easily portable, and has a small screen and keypad- overall better for sending video and audio messages; after a bit of fiddling with the device's parts, it can be expanded into a somewhat-bulkier laptop, better for typing long posts. How does this work? Idk, science.

And what's the name for this device, you might ask? The... Communication Device, or Communicator! Yeah, ok, Bunsen was always the one who named stuff back at Muppet Labs, naming stuff isn't really Beaker's forte.

The device will be capable of:

• connection to a global, public network; stylistically and functionally similar to a bulletin board system
• post text comments, videos, audio messages, and images to this public network
• send private messages[text, video, audio, and images] to one person or to a small group of people in your contacts
• the contacts list, by the way, includes everyone who is currently in Progress City, and will automatically update when new people join the city. You can edit the names of the contacts, block certain people from messaging you, etc.
• if you're VERY persistent, it's technically possible to code and create a website, though it'll probably look a lot like early 90s-era websites. Kind of ugly, but it gets the job done.
• an emergency/alert system, that the Mayor [or whoever is currently babysitting the mayor to make sure he doesn't do anything stupid, should there be another situation like Mayor Plankton] can set off, in case of emergency; this alert will send messages to all devices in operation and make a horrible blaring noise
• There are two miniature versions of the device, one made for Jedidiah and one made for Basil. They're still a bit bulky and over-sized, because Beaker isn't used to designing things so tiny, but he'll be working on making smaller ones in the future, and also having more miniature versions set aside just in case more people/animals of their size join the city
• if you have any questions about what other things might be available for this device, just ask on this post!

Overall, the device is pretty rudimentary, but he's planning to add updates to it as time goes on- and other characters with technological know-how can suggest or create their own updates and additions, as well! Planned updates include:

• an actual search engine, though it'll be pretty basic for a while until more things are available
• more social media options instead of just the basic public network
• knockoff youtube is a necessity
• and more!
feel free to add any suggestions you might have for stuff to add, onto this post!

Unfortunately, since the devices are new, and also made by a Muppet scientist, there are still plenty of bugs and glitches that Beaker hasn't caught, yet:

• Attempting to message people who have left Progress City will lead to your message not sending and your device being stuck on the "message not sent" error screen until you attempt to reboot the device.
• Attempting to start a video or audio call with someone who has left Progress City will cause your device to emit a loud, radio static noise until it is rebooted.
• Sometimes, while playing recorded videos [not live video feeds], the device will freeze for several minutes and will not reboot or restart no matter how hard you try. It will eventually close on its own and the same video can be played again like normal.
• Video and audio posts may open on their own with no user input.
• text messages may not always send, and sometimes public messages will only show up for a few people. Deleting and re-sending the message usually fixes this.
occasionally a private message or video will send to the completely wrong person. or just be posted publicly to everyone! whoops!
• the emergency alert system may possibly go off for absolutely no fucking reason sometimes.
• and more! you can get creative with what kind of bugs your characters might have to deal with while using the devices, so long as it makes sense for an electronic device to have those issues. If you're not sure, just ask!

ICly, there will be some sort of in-universe announcement about the devices in early August[not in the form of a log, just assume Beaker, like, put up a LOT of posters or something], and the devices will be ready for pick-up at a booth outside Ellen's Lab on the 6th! They're free of charge, so don't worry about that. There will be a log posted on this day by Beaker, but it's not required for you to tag the log in order to receive your device. Characters who app into the game after this date can receive their devices upon arrival.

I'm so happy about this. especially the emergency alert system.
